About Athebyne
Athebyne, Eta Draconis, is a yellow giant that has finished burning hydrogen in its core and expanded to many times the Sun’s width. It has a faint companion, visible in a telescope close beside it.
Its name comes from the Arabic for two serpents, a figure once made of this star and its neighbour Aldhibah. In the Dragon it lies on the long body that winds between the two Bears.
What you see in the piece
It is among the nearer stars of the Dragon; fly out and the long coil it belongs to straightens into stars scattered at quite different depths.
