About Zavijava
The card describes a star not very different from the Sun: somewhat larger, somewhat hotter and brighter, still burning hydrogen in its core. It is one of the nearer named stars of the zodiac.
It sits almost on the ecliptic, the Sun’s path, near the point where the Sun crosses the celestial equator in September, so the Moon and sometimes planets pass in front of it. Its name comes from the Arabic for the corner of the barker, an old figure of this part of the sky.
What you see in the piece
In the piece Zavijava is close by, far nearer than Spica; from space the Maiden’s figure falls apart into stars at very different distances.
