About Muphrid
Muphrid is a yellow star of class G, wider and more luminous than the Sun. It is leaving the long stable stage of its life and has begun to expand, on its way to becoming a giant. It has a close companion found from its spectrum.
Its name comes from the Arabic for the solitary one, from an old name linking it to the lancer, Arcturus. The two really are neighbours: Muphrid lies close to Arcturus not just on the sky but in space, so from one the other would shine brilliantly.
What you see in the piece
Fly towards Boötes and Muphrid and Arcturus stay together, a rare case where two stars close on the sky are close in depth as well.
